Welcome to Curaçao

Welcome to this island paradise, where you'll encounter refreshing trade winds, sun-kissed shores, clear blue waters, historic buildings and warm and friendly residents.

Curaçao is the perfect destination for business or pleasure, offering myriad accommodations, attractions, dining experiences and activities to its visitors. Willemstad, with its original Dutch colonial architecture, is one of six UNESCO World Heritage City and Town sites in the Caribbean.

Curaçao's name is cause for speculation. The island was named after the Spanish or Portuguese word for "heart" or the word cura, which means "healing," but regardless of its true meaning, Curaçao makes your heart and soul yearn for more.

Dear Visitor,

On behalf of the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA), I welcome you to our island and extend a warm "Bon Bini" (which means welcome in our local language "Papiamentu"). CHATA is the representative organization of the private tourism sector and as such we are involved in the continuous development and improvement of our tourism product. We are excited about the many new developments taking place in tourism on our island and we like you to share our excitement.

Experience Curaçao is our Official Tourism Magazine, which reflects the quality of our tourism product that you are about to experience. We are proud to present this outstanding publication for your information and guidance while you are here in Curaçao. If this is your first visit to the island, we encourage you to get out and explore Curaçao. That is by far the best way to enjoy our island. For those returning to our shores, we welcome you back.

We hope that each time you visit our island, you will feel more at home, whether you are staying at an intimate guest house or at a luxurious resort. We are all here to serve you and make your stay comfortable.

In Curaçao you will find impressive Dutch Colonial architecture, the reason why our capital Willemstad has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a World Heritage Site. Curaçao also boasts beautiful beaches, great dive sites, colorful flora and fauna, and a charming mix of warm, friendly and caring people eager to make your stay a memorable one. Curaçao is the perfect break-away from the everyday hassle and pace of modern life. Curaçao offers you its breezy trade winds and comfortable climate year-round. Suggestions abound in this great book for making your stay even more interesting.

Whether you have come to our island on vacation or on business, we hope that your expectations will be met and that you return home with positive memories of Curaçao.

Yours hospitably,

Paul Kob
